Martyred

Even when I shut my eyes
Even then I see them shrouded in black.
Strewn upon horse trodden earth, scared by mechanical beasts.
Their hot blood splatters rose patterns across concrete,
Rose gardens blossoming in the streets.
Showered in petals, perfumed in musk, and carried like princes.
Ambassadors from the Kingdom of Heaven baring glad tidings.
Glad tidings of a land beyond the reach of crooked kings
Returning from whence they came
In the pleasure of their Lord,
His reign.
